Photography: Portraits

I believe the most effective portrait photography starts, ends and spends more time away from any photographic hardware and yet you google portrait photography and you will be bombarded with videos, sites and reviews relating to lenses, cameras, camera settings, discussions on apertures, lighting, flashes, poses, composition and post processing. I like to start with what the portrait will be used for, who is the "target audience" and what you are trying to communicate through your portrait. I then shoot a selection of photos and discuss a starting point for the final image, use all the information gathered to perform any processing and provide samples & options. Of course I can also accommodate the standard: passport, formal & casual business portraits often used to help identify within a company setting or help establish the vital "first impressions" such a photo can make.
